Job profitability

See margin pressure while you can still act.

Construction job-cost reporting that connects budgets, recorded labour, materials, invoices and payments. Understand the difference between cost to date and the forecast to finish.

Bring the job position into one view.

See the contract value, recorded costs and invoice position together. Completed work, invoiced work and cash received remain separate.

Find the cost category that is moving.

A job can look healthy overall while labour is running over its allowance. Compare like-for-like budgets and recorded costs, then open the evidence.

  • Separate labour, materials and other costs.
  • Keep missing costs visible instead of treating them as zero.

Separate today’s margin from the likely finish.

A forecast needs the work and costs still to come. Show that allowance explicitly, so a partial invoice total is not mistaken for final profit.

  • Add an agreed estimate of remaining cost.
  • Show assumptions beside forecast figures.

Show what an approved variation changes.

Keep pending variations separate from the agreed job value. Once approved, reflect the changed revenue and cost allowance in the job view.

  • Do not count a proposal as approved revenue.
  • Keep the approval record with the change.

What we check before building

Reliable job identifiers, budget categories, approved variations, cost records and a clear accounting basis.

These are illustrative workflows, not a ready-made platform or live client results. We agree the supported connections, approval points and acceptance tests before implementation.

Questions about delivery

Can you report job costs from Xero and our job software?

Where the systems expose usable records and job identifiers, we can connect them. We first check existing integrations and agree which system owns each figure.

Is cash received the same as job profit?

No. Payments, invoiced revenue, recorded costs and forecast profit are different measures. The dashboard labels the basis and period for each.

Can we compare estimated and actual labour and materials?

Yes where the budget, timesheets, rates and supplier costs can be mapped to the job. Missing records are flagged.

Can you show forecast final margin?

A forecast can be shown when remaining cost and revised contract value are available. Its assumptions are visible and it is labelled as an estimate.

How are variations treated?

Pending and approved variations stay separate. The agreed rules determine when a change affects contract value and cost budgets.

Will the figures reconcile with our accounts?

Reconciliation is an acceptance step. We agree tax, timing, credits and allocation rules, then test a representative period with your accounts team.
